STATE OF OREGON NOTARY REQUIREMENTS

ELIGIBILITY

Be 18 years or older.

Be a resident of the State of Oregon.

Be able to read and write the English language.

Be of good moral character.

Not have had a notary commission revoked for official misconduct during the previous 5 years.

Not have been convicted of a felony or of a lesser offense incompatible with the duties of a notary public during the previous 10-year period.


PROVISIONS

Non-Residents: Permitted. A resident of an adjacent state who is regularly employed or who carries on a trade or business within the state of Oregon can apply.

Bond: None Required.

Errors & Omissions Insurance: Optional.

Filing Fee: A $20 filing fees is required for new and renewal notary applications.

Term: 4 years.

Jurisdiction: Statewide.  

Renewal: A notary public may not apply more than 2 ½ months prior to the commission expiration date.

Education/Testing: Required. It is mandatory that new applicants and inactive notaries complete a three-hour notary training course and pass the notary exam provided by the Secretary of State.

Notary Seal: Required. Black inked stamp.

Record Book: Required.
