STATE REQUIREMENTS

ELIGIBILITY

Be 18 years or older.

Be a registered voter in the state of Rhode Island or an attorney who is a member of the Rhode Island Bar Association.

Be able to read and write the English language.Not have been convicted of a felony.


PROVISIONS

Non-Residents: Not permitted. 

Bond: None Required.

Errors & Omissions Insurance: Optional.

Filing Fee: A filing fee of $80 is required for new and renewal notary applications.

Term: 4 years.

Jurisdiction: Statewide.

Renewal: Notaries may apply 60 days before the expiration of their current commissions by completing a renewal application form.

Education/Testing: None Required.

Notary Seal: State encourages notaries to use a notary seal. 

Record Book: State encourages notaries to maintain a notary journal.
