STEP 2 - COMPLETE AND DOWNLOAD THE SOUTH DAKOTA NOTARY PUBLIC APPLICATION.

Once you receive your notary bond (completed by our office) you will need to complete the South Dakota notary public application. You must sign your notary bond where indicated. You must include an impression of your official stamp seal where indicated at the top left of the notary public application.

STEP 3 - ITEMS TO BE MAILED TO THE SECRETARY OF STATE'S OFFICE.

When you have completed the notary public application you must send the following items to the Secretary of State's Office:

1) Completed South Dakota notary public application
2) Completed $5,000 notary public 6 year bond
3) Filing fee of $30.00 (Check payable to: Secretary of State)

Mail all of the above items to the following address:

If and when your application is approved the office of the Secretary of State will send your notary commission certificate and a copy of the South Dakota notary public handbook to you at the address listed on your the notary public application. Only after you have received a Notary Commission Certificate issued by the Secretary of State, will you be authorized to notarize documents.

STATE OF SOUTH DAKOTA NOTARY REQUIREMENTS 


ELIGIBILITY 

Minimum Age: 18 years or older.

South Dakota Resident: Yes be a resident of the State of South Dakota.

Jurisdiction: Statewide.

Non-Residents: Permitted. A resident who resides in an out-of-state county bordering South Dakota whose employment or business is in South Dakota may apply. Such applicant must meet the same qualifications as a South Dakota resident.

Felony Convictions: Not have been convicted of a felony.


PROVISIONS 

Term: 6 year bond term.

Bond Requirement: Required. A notary bond or a personal surety in the amount of $5,000 is required for new and renewing notaries public.

Notary Seal Requirement: Required.

Education/Testing: None required. 

State Filing Fee: A $30 filing fee is required for new and renewal notary applications.

Recording Journal: Recommended by the Secretary of State and by South Dakota Notary "Discount" Association.
