STATE REQUIREMENTS

ELIGIBILITY

Be 18 years old or older.

Be a resident of South Carolina, declaring a county and precinct.

Be a United States citizen.

Be a registered voter in South Carolina thirty days prior to an election.

Not be under a court order declaring mental incompetence.

Not serving a term of imprisonment resulting from a conviction for a crime.

Not have been convicted of a felony or offense against the election laws; or, if previously convicted, not have served an entire sentence including probation or parole or have received a pardon for the conviction.


PROVISIONS

Non-Residents: Not permitted.

Bond: None required.

Errors & Omissions Insurance: Optional.

Filing Fee: A $25 filing fee is required for new and renewal notary applications.

Term: 10 years.

Jurisdiction: Statewide.  

Renewal: A notary may apply for renewal 30 days prior to the expiration date of the current commission.

Education/Testing: None Required.

Notary Seal: Embosser or rubber-inked stamp.

Record Book: Recommended by the Secretary of State.
