STATE OF VIRGINIA NOTARY REQUIREMENTS

ELIGIBILITY

Be 18 years or older.

Be able to read and write the English language.

Not have been convicted of a felony, unless there is proof of a pardon or rights restored.


PROVISIONS

Non-Residents: Permitted. Persons living in adjoining states can apply on the condition that such persons are employed in Virginia.

Bond: None required.

Errors & Omissions Insurance: Optional.

Filing Fee: A filing fee of $45 is required for new and renewal notary applications.

Term: 4 years.

Jurisdiction: Statewide.

Renewal: A notary public may apply before the expiration of the current commission by completing a renewal application.

Education/Testing: None Required.

Notary Seal: Required.

Record Book: Not required.
