Required. A bond in the amount of $1,000 is required for new and renewing notaries public.
Errors & Omissions Insurance
Optional. Oklahoma Notary "Discount" Association Co. strongly recommends that Oklahoma notaries insure themselves against claims of negligence.
Notary Stamp/Notary Seal
Required. A embosser or rubber inked stamp.
Notary Public Recording Journal
None Required. The Secretary of State and Oklahoma Notary "Discount" Association Co. strongly recommend that Oklahoma notaries public record every notarial act in a notary record book or journal.
State Filing Fee
A $25.00 state filing fee is required for new commissions and a $20.00 state filing fee is required for renewal commissions.

Non-Residents
Permitted. An out-of-state resident who is employed within Oklahoma may apply for an Oklahoma notary public commission. A notary who ceases to reside or work in Oklahoma must resign his/her notary commission.
Notary Commission Renewal
A notary public may apply 45 days prior to the expiration of his or her current notary commission by completing a renewal application form and submitting a $20 filing fee. The Secretary of State may refuse to renew the commission of a notary upon knowledge of a felony conviction and/or upon receipt of a court judgment against the notary for performing a false or fraudulent notarial act.
Oklahoma Change of Name
If a notary’s name has legally changed, he/she may continue to use their former name as issued on the existing commission until it expires. If a notary wishes to use a new name, a letter of resignation must be submitted to the Secretary of State together with a completed application for a new commission and a $25.00 filing fee. This name change will establish a new commission number and expiration date. It will be necessary for the individual to purchase a new seal and file a new surety bond.
Oklahoma Change of Address
If the notary’s resident address changes, he/she must inform the Secretary of State in writing within thirty (30) days of such change. It will not be necessary for the individual to purchase a new seal or file a new application and bond. There is no filing fee to change an address. We will electronically file your completed order with the Secretary of State.

Once filed the Secretary of State will review your application for appointment as a notary. Once approved your notary commission certificate will be emailed directly to us. We will then email the following to you:

  • Notary bond.
  • Power of attorney form.
  • Notary errors & omissions policy (keep for your records).
  • Notary public commission certificate (keep for your records).
  • The official seal stamp will be ordered and mailed separately. Please allow approximately 3 to 6 business days to receive your official seal stamp due to the fact that it must be personalized and manufactured.
Once you receive the forms from us you must file your forms within 60 days with the Oklahoma Secretary of State's office. Please do not delay or your notary commission can be revoked.

Before a person may act as a notary public, he or she must file the signed and completed (both sides) notary bond, power of attorney form and a $10.00 notary bond filing fee (payable to Oklahoma Secretary of State) with the Oklahoma Secretary of State's office. If you have any questions about the required notary bond filing contact the Oklahoma Secretary of State's office at 1-405-521-2516.
